Curling
A 300 year old sport that originated in Scotland found a niche
in the Wausau Area. Teams of curlers take to the ice each winter
for enjoyment and competition. The object of this highly social
game is to score points by sliding round "stones," each weighing
42.5 pounds, into a marked target or "house." Points are tallied
by how close each stone is to the center of the target. Curling
matches are held in the Curling Barn at Marathon Park on Tuesday
through Thursday evenings during the winter. Visitors are welcome
to watch the weekly games or the various tournaments or bonspiels.
